Continued Camp Construction

Camp put in continues this week with the largest team we’ve had yet out at our site- two carpenters (Scott & Dave), two heavy equipment operators (Mel & Josh), six members of B259, and our implementer Steve. We were able to get the main access hole drilled and Artemis’ culvert installed and leveled out which was no small feat, especially in the -50 F (-45 C) windchill yesterday.

We’re gonna need a bigger shovel.

Better yet, the Reedrill with Josh at the helm.

The culvert is 16′ long and 54″ in diameter and prevents platelet ice, or large crystals of marine ice, from accumulating in the hole providing a clean access for the vehicle. We’ll put one in under our fish hut as well, which will become a dive hut.

Construction on the Bot Garage (a modified 22′ x 32′ Polar Haven, and Artemis’ eventual home), can now commence over top of the culvert. We’ll also get a 16′ x 20′ Science/Galley Polar Haven, and a generator shed in the next few weeks to complete the site.

Next up tomorrow morning- snowmobile training!
